Additional Relief for Piriformis Syndrome

by Hal Koffman
(Kansas City, MO, USA)

In 2009 I suffered for six weeks with excruciating pain on my right side, from my buttock to my foot. It felt like all of the muscles were being ripped away from my body.

I went to a the Pain Clinic at Kansas University Medical Center for treatment. They gave me two injections in my right buttock. The MRI showed that a bulging disk in my lower back was causing my piriformis muscle in my right buttock to impinge on my sciatic nerve.

After the injections I completed a one month protocol of physical therapy. This included various resistance exercises for my feet, ankles and legs, using elastic bands of varying strengths. I was also taught how to do other therapeutic movements for my buttock without the use of an elastic band.

I was greatly helped by the physical therapy and continued it at home as needed. I have not had any problems in over a year and I am very pleased with my results.
