The best guitar straps come in hundreds of different colours and designs. What should you consider before buying?
Appearance
This is probably your first criteria for a guitar strap just make sure that it doesn't clash with your guitar. It should accentuate your guitar and make it look even better and not cheap and nasty. If in doubt ask a girl (they're better at colours than us:)
Width of Strap
If you play your guitar standing for long periods of time, the strap can start to dig into your shoulders and this can be very uncomfortable and. A way to dramatically reduce this problem is by choosing a wide strap. This distributes the weight of the guitar over a larger surface area of your body and therefore reduces the strain. It will also help reduce the chances of back problems further down the line.
Material
Don't skimp on the material for your strap. The usual materials are fabric and leather, both of which should last you a good few years. Of course you might want to have different straps for different gigs. The choices are endless.
A cotton guitar strap is made of lightweight cotton fabric.
It is approximately two inches wide.It is extremely soft and flexible. It does not burn the shoulder and the back, making it ideal for extended use.It is available in different colors and patterns. It can come with symbol patches.
A leather guitar strap is made of genuine, high-grade leather.
It can be tanned to the desired shade to match the user’s guitar color. It can be as wide as 2.5 inches. It is made with inner padding for maximum comfort.
Locking Straps
Over time normal straps can become worn suddenly you find your guitar is no longer supported!!
If you value your guitar, you should consider investing in a locking strap. It often costs a bit more than the standard guitar strap but can be a worthwhile investment.
