The Griffin iMic The Best Solution For Laptop Sound
The Griffin iMic is a great piece of kit which will enable your laptop (PC or MAC) to record sound from any audio source, whether it's a record player, a CD player or a microphone. In fact one of the best features of this device and why I bought one was the ability to plug a microphone(I use a Sony ECM-MS907 Stereo Microphone) into the iMic and plug the iMic into my laptop.
You may not be aware but all modern laptops don't have the ability to record direct from a microphone so you need a microphone amplifier to get sound from the microphone into your laptop. If you've ever tried recording without an amplifier you'll know that the sound is very quiet and totally unusable!

If you want some technical specs then here we go: * Audio input: 1/8" (3.5 mm) stereo line/mic-level * Audio output: 1/8" (3.5 mm) stereo line-level * Computer interface: Type A USB * Hardware control: Slider switch for mic/line level * Height: 0.5 in. (1.27 cm) * Diameter: 2 in. (5.08 cm) * Weight: 2 oz. (56.7 g) * Cable length: 18 in. (45.7 cm) Bonus Of course getting the sound into your laptop is one thing but you also need to record the sound with some software. And the Griffin iMic comes with Final Vinyl as a free download (MAC only, PC users can download the FREE Audacity music program from here. Final Vinyl is designed specifically for converting your vinyl collection to digital. It comes with features such as editing, so you can make fades and cut and paste your sound files, a 10-band Equaliser - to get the treble and bass just right, and it even includes a special filter that makes LPs sound just like they should, without the need for an expensive pre-amplifier.
As you can see this little box of wonders has everything you need to get you recording and it's so inexpensive. Just click on the image below to see what a bargain the iMic really is...
