About Me

Pain due guitar practices

by Pargat
(India)

I am a guitarist; I love to play the guitar.
Sometimes I play the guitar for hours.

But sitting for hours at a time began to create problems.

My back started aching, so I started using a strap to hold the guitar but that caused pain in my shoulders!

Soon playing my guitar was giving me pain in my neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands too.

Then one day one of my fellow guitarists recommended the Alexander Technique to me. After meeting a certified teacher I came to realise that my posture while playing the guitar was really bad.

My teacher told me that what harm these postures can do to me. He told me the right posture that I should maintain while holding my guitar. I followed his advice and some days later my pain started to decrease and now I can play my guitar without having pain in my body, all thanks to the Alexander Technique.
