Physiotherapy Relieved Me Of My Sciatica Pain

I have suffered back pain for the last 5 years. It started as lower back pain and slowly spread.
I had gone to many orthopedic specialists but was only given painkillers to handle the condition. Finally a friend of mine suggested I go to a physiotherapist. The first thing he did was take a complete history of the illness along with my past medical history. He told me that the space between and lumbar disc L3 and L4 was reduced, and nerve compression was causing my back pain.
The first thing he advised me to do was never to sit on the floor in a squatting position, never to carry heavy weights and always bend your knees rather than your back. He did the raising test of the leg and told me to bend forward without bending the knees. He suggested a few simple exercises that I should on a daily basis.
The
First Exercise was to lie down straight and fold the knee slowly towards the stomach.
The
Second Exercise was to lie down on my stomach and raise my head and both the legs backwards simultaneously till a pain was felt on the back.
It’s been six months now and I am perfectly fine doing normal household chores. The only thing he has told me is to avoid standing for long durations and also to avoid lifting heavy weights. I have stopped taking painkillers the day I started the exercises and I am still continuing the exercises twice a day for 15 minutes.
I have learned a valuable lesson that it is best to do the physiotherapy exercises every day and remain fresh and healthy.
