RSI Problems From Picking Up Children

by Linda
(Providence, RI USA)

About a year ago, I was suffering from the worst pains in my shoulder. Any movement gave me a jolt from my shoulder blade to the side of my neck.
I went to my doctor after dealing with the pain for several months. He said that I had RSI in my shoulder. We concluded that it came from my job. I ran a home daycare at the time, and I was constantly picking up kids. Some of my little ones were quite heavy, and I am not a big person.
My doctor told me that the damage that had been done never got a chance to fix itself, because I was still performing the same movements every day. He gave me a cortisone shot in the area. He said the cortisone would allow my muscle to heal even while the movement was still being done.
After two months, my pain subsided. It didn’t go away immediately, but it eased up a lot. Since then, I have stopped doing daycare and the pain is completely gone.
