The Symptoms of Tendonitis
To understand the symptoms of tendonitis we first need to understand what it is. The word tendonitis simply means the inflammation of a tendon and a tendon is what connects your muscles to your bones. So you can see that you could have tendonitis in many areas of the body although the commonest are; tendonitis of the elbow, of the hand and the achilles heel.Tendons come in many shapes and sizes. Some are very small, like the ones that cause movements of your fingers, and some are much larger, such as your Achilles tendon in your heel. When functioning normally, these tendons glide easily and smoothly as the muscle contracts. Tendonitis only occurs when the tendons don't move smoothly and then become aggravated and inflammed. Causes of Tendonitis Tendonitis is caused by overusing a particular movement of the body. Which is why musicians are particularly susceptible, with the repetitive motions of their hands and wrists. This is also the reason that typists can suffer too. It's also more likely to occur in the 40-60 age bracket as your tendons become less elastic as you get older. Symptoms of Tendonitis There are three main symptoms: 1.Tenderness over the area of the tendon 2.Pain when moving the muscles or tendons 3.Swelling of the affected tendon
Treatments Obviously you should seek medical advice if you suspect you have tendonitis, but as they can't see the inflamed tendon easily then you can take two basic steps to improve the situation: 1. Rest the area - stop the activity that brought the pain on in the first place 2. Apply an ice-pack to the affected area to reduce the swelling
3. You can also try Aromatherapy
