About Me

Tendonitis One Year After Surgery.

by Kim
(Plattsburgh, NY, USA)

In the summer of 2008 I slipped and broke my ankle. I had surgery on it to repair the bone as well as a plate with six screws to hold the bone in place. I spent months doing physical therapy and resting my leg because of swelling.

About a year after the surgery I was sitting in the break room at work, rolling and flexing my foot/ankle with I heard a pop, but no pain. It wasn't very loud, but it sounded similar to a knuckle popping. By the end of work my ankle had swollen to twice it's size and was painful to walk on.

The next day I went to my doctor, who said it was tendonitis. While I was flexing my ankle, the tendon on the side of my ankle rubbed over either a screw or the plate itself, causing irritation and swelling. I spent a couple weeks using the RICE (Rest,Ice,Compression,Elevation) technique and taking a NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory) if I needed to. I have never had problems since then.
