TENNIS ELBOW- A CAUSE TO WORRY

by sweetu
(Kolkata,India)

This incident happened 5 years ago. One fine morning I woke up with a sudden pain in the elbow joint of my right hand and the pain was aggravated when I extended my wrist and fingers.

There was localized tenderness in that particular area and a slight swelling was present. I could not pour out tea from the teapot nor could I open the door knob.

I suspected something wrong and immediately consulted my family physician. He suggested I go for an x-ray. The x-ray findings were normal and the diagnosis was Tennis Elbow.

My doctor suggested to rest the hand and give ice compression at regular intervals. I was also told to visit a physiotherapist who gave me a few stretching exercises and showed me how to do a simple massage without eliciting the pain.

Finally after much trouble, the pain subsided. It took nearly 2 months. I still hesitate to lift heavy things with my right hand, but adequate rest and stretching exercises with massage every alternate day was the successful treatment in my case.
